Lab 01: RIP Offset-list

Let's configure RIPv2 on R1, R2 and R4.

R1#show ip route 2.2.2.2
Routing entry for 2.2.2.2/32
  Known via "rip", distance 120, metric 1
  Redistributing via rip
  Last update from 12.0.0.2 on Serial0/0, 00:00:15 ago
  Routing Descriptor Blocks:
  * 12.0.0.2, from 12.0.0.2, 00:00:15 ago, via Serial0/0
      Route metric is 1, traffic share count is 1

R4#show ip route 2.2.2.2
Routing entry for 2.2.2.2/32
  Known via "rip", distance 120, metric 2
  Redistributing via rip
  Last update from 14.0.0.1 on Serial0/1, 00:00:27 ago
  Routing Descriptor Blocks:
  * 14.0.0.1, from 14.0.0.1, 00:00:27 ago, via Serial0/1
      Route metric is 2, traffic share count is 1

After offset-list configuration on R1,

R1#show running-config | section rip
router rip
 version 2
 offset-list 1 in 14 Serial0/0
 network 12.0.0.0
 network 14.0.0.0
 no auto-summary

route metric becomes 15.

R1#show ip route 2.2.2.2
Routing entry for 2.2.2.2/32
  Known via "rip", distance 120, metric 15
  Redistributing via rip
  Last update from 12.0.0.2 on Serial0/0, 00:00:00 ago
  Routing Descriptor Blocks:
  * 12.0.0.2, from 12.0.0.2, 00:00:00 ago, via Serial0/0
      Route metric is 15, traffic share count is 1

As a result, network 2.2.2.2/32 becomes unreachable on R4.

R4#show ip route 2.2.2.2
% Network not in table
